Nursing Home Care Compare*
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced significant updates to the Nursing Home Care Compare platform, effective July 30, 2025. Key enhancements include the addition of aggregated performance data for nursing home chains, offering consumers clearer insights into facilities with shared ownership. To ensure ratings reflect current conditions, the oldest (third cycle) health inspection surveys will be excluded from the Health Inspection Rating. The quality measure for long-stay residents receiving antipsychotic medications will now incorporate Medicare and Medicaid claims data alongside existing assessments, improving accuracy. Additionally, COVID-19 vaccination metrics for residents and staff will be removed from facility profiles, streamlining the information presented.
Wound Care Spotlight: Choosing the Right Dressing**
Wound dressings play a critical role in healing, with selection largely based on their ability to retain moisture. Open dressings, like saline-moistened gauze, are cost-effective but require frequent changes. Semi-open dressings, such as Xeroform or Adaptic, use ointment-impregnated mesh with layered gauze; however, they may allow drying or maceration. Semi-occlusive dressings—films, foams, alginates, and hydrogels—help maintain a moist environment and promote healing, especially in acute wounds. Products like Tegaderm and Bioclusive are effective, though not suitable for highexudate wounds. Proper dressing choice supports wound healing and minimizes complications in clinical care.
