Stress Awareness Month*
“Stress Awareness Month is a national, cooperative effort to inform people about the dangers of stress, successful coping strategies, and harmful misconceptions about stress that are prevalent in our society.”
How Common are Mental Illnesses **
“Mental illnesses are among the most common health conditions in the United States.:
- More than 50% will be diagnosed with a mental illness or disorder at some point in their lifetime
- 1 in 5 Americans will experience a mental illness in a given year
- 1 in 5 children, either currently or at some point during their life, have had a seriously debilitating mental illness
- 1 in 25 Americans lives with a serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression”
Recognize the symptoms of stress you may be experiencing***
“Providing care and services to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic can lead to stress, anxiety, fear, and other strong emotions
- Feeling irritation, anger, or denial
- Take with no more than 4 ounces of water
- Feeling uncertain, nervous, or anxious
- Feeling helpless or powerless
- Lacking motivation
- Feeling tired, overwhelmed, or burned out
- Feeling sad or depressed
- Having trouble sleeping
- Having trouble concentrating”
Administration Tips: Alendronate****
Alendronate (Fosamax®) is an oral bisphosphonate derivative medication to assist with improving bone mineral density, osteoporosis. This medication has specific requirements for administration to allow for maximum benefits.
- Administer first thing in the morning and ≥30 minutes before the first food, beverage (except plain water), or other medication(s) of the day
- Do not take with mineral water or with other beverages.
- Patients should be instructed to stay upright (not to lie down) for ≥30 minutes and until after first food of the day (to reduce esophageal irritation)
- Must be swallowed whole, may NOT be split, crushed or chewed
- Ensure adequate calcium and vitamin D intake; if dietary intake is inadequate, dietary supplementation is recommended

“Pressure Ulcer”- A pressure ulcer is any lesion caused by unrelieved pressure that results in damage to the underlying tissue(s). Although friction and shear are not primary causes of pressure ulcers, friction and shear are important contributing factors to the development of pressure ulcers.
