ACIP Coronavirus Vaccine Guidance*

The FDA has issued Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer-BioNTech (PFZ) and Moderna (MOD) COVID-19 vaccines. Both vaccines are a two-dose series with PFZ being 3 weeks apart and MOD being 4 weeks apart. Before vaccination, the EUA Fact Sheet should be provided to recipients and caregivers. Providers should counsel PFZ or MOD COVID-19 vaccine recipients about expected systemic and local reactions. Additional clinical considerations, including details of administration and use in special populations should be reviewed. The vaccines are not interchangeable with other COVID-19 vaccine products as the safety and efficacy of a mixed-product series have not been evaluated.

Returnable Medications

Certain forms of medication cannot be returned to the pharmacy for credit since they can only be used for one person once opened. These could include inhalers, eye drops, creams, ointments, liquids or insulins. Consider having the physician sign an order allowing the resident to take these medications with them upon discharge from the facility, providing the order is still active.

Pay Status Changes

To streamline billing procedures for both residents and facilities, please contact our pharmacy team regarding any resident pay status changes. Examples include, but not limited to: Medicare eligibility, Medicare A Skilled, Medicaid Pending and admission/discharge for Hospice Services.
