National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month*
June is Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month. Sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association. Ten early signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s include:
- Memory loss that disrupts daily life
- Challenges in planning or solving problems
- Difficulty completing familiar tasks
- Confusion with time or place
- Trouble understanding visual images and spatial relationships
- New problems with words in speaking or writing
- Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps
- Decreased or poor judgment
- Withdrawal from work or social activities
- Changes in mood and personality
Fentanyl Patch Disposal**
“Even after a patch is used, there is enough fentanyl left to cause illness, overdose or death in babies, children, pets and others who are accidentally exposed to the medicine in the patch. That’s why the drug comes with special instructions on how to dispose of used or leftover patches.
The FDA recommends promptly disposing of used patches by folding them in half with the sticky sides together, and then flushing them down a toilet. Patches should not be placed in the household trash, where children or pets can find them. Children may find lost, discarded or improperly stored patches and ingest them or stick them on themselves or others.
The FDA has included fentanyl patches on a list of medicines that should be flushed down a toilet because they could be especially harmful, and possibly fatal, in a single dose if used by someone other than the person for whom the medicine was prescribed.”
CMS Appendix PP Definitions***
Controlled Medications: “Regulations require that the facility have a system to account for controlled medications’ receipt and disposition in sufficient detail to enable an accurate reconciliation, and that the facility conduct a periodic reconciliation. This system should include, but is not limited to:
- Record of receipt of all controlled medications with sufficient detail to allow reconciliation (e.g., specifying the name and strength of the medication, the quantity and date received, and the resident’s name). However, in some delivery systems (e.g., single unit package medication delivery system or automated dispensing systems utilizing single-unit packages of medications that are not dispensed pursuant to a specific order), the resident’s name may not be applicable.”
I think the biggest disease the world suffers from in this day and age is the disease of people feeling unloved. I know that I can give love for a minute, for half an hour, for a day, for a month, but I can give. I am very happy to do that, I want to do that.
